NSV Removed pant guards from my wheelchair!

I’ve been a paraplegic for over twenty years since falling of a cliff at 18. I’m about to turn 40 and decided to get serious about getting healthy about a year ago. I was feeling sluggish, wasn’t able to get in and out of my chair easily, and I was getting close to needing a new wheelchair to accommodate my increasing weight. A new wheelchair would have cost me close to 10 grand SO...

I started eating fewer calories and more nutrient dense food (which I track on MFP). I eat a lot of nuts and plant based protein but I don’t track macros closely. I focus on overall calorie count. I’m 5’10’’ (if I were standing) and started at 185lbs. I stick to 1680 calories a day (but went as low as 1500 for a few months). I use an arm cycle 4-5 days a week for 40 minutes a session at high intensity. Things were moving slowly until I started 16:8 IF and completely cut out alcohol last August when I was 165 lbs. Now I’m 135lbs. My pant size went from 38 waist to 30. That weight sounds low for my height but as a paraplegic my lower body has zero muscle so my overall weight should be about 7% lower than other folks at my height.

I realized recently that the pant guards on my chair may no longer be necessary. I took them off and sure enough my butt and thighs didn’t hit the tires. My wheelchair is so much more comfy and functional now!

I can also get down to the floor and back again so easily! As an elementary school teacher this makes my life and teaching so much easier and more fun. Now that I’ve got better habits I’m finding it much easier to stick to my program and I plan on keeping up with it permanently. It’s so worth it! YAY EATING WELL AND EXERCISE! πŸ˜ƒ FYI I’m open to any questions and not easily offended by questions about my disability. So happy to be a loser!
