Right around when I first started losing weight I shared a hotel room with two of my sisters while attending my other sister’s graduation from medical school. Apparently my snoring was horrible, it drove my youngest sister out of our room to bunk with our parents. The next day she is describing what it sounds like- gasping for air, kind of thought you might die, was almost hoping for it for the quiet, etc. (The sisterly love is strong, lol.) Doctor-sister says that sounds like sleep apnea, can really be quite serious, you should get tested. I weighed around 245lbs at that point.
So I get tested. And I keep losing weight. Diagnosed with mild positional sleep apnea (basically it not too bad if I am on my side.) the doctor tells me I qualify for a cpap machine, or that losing even 10 or 15 lbs might totally cure it. I had already lost 20lb in between the sleep study and getting the results (was down to around 215 by then) and cpap sounds awful, so I decide to keep losing and see how it goes. But I don’t have anyone sleeping in the same room so I really have no idea if it’s getting better or not.
But last night Doctor-sister’s flight from a conference where I live gets cancelled, so she stays at my very small apartment for the night. And before we go to bed she asks if I ever found out if I was still snoring? I say no, and she says she will let me know. I now weight around 152.
And this morning she tells me I don’t really snore anymore, and she didn’t hear anything that sounded like I couldn’t breathe! Obviously not as good as a sleep study, but she was awake in the middle of the night for quite a while trying to rebook her flight! AND I have a stuffy nose from a cold right now, so I was pretty sure just from that I would snore, but nope!
