My post-Thanksgiving tip: Save your worst bite for last!

Like many of you, I allowed myself to indulge yesterday for Thanksgiving. I kept my portion sizes more or less in check, but I made sure to put all my favorite Thanksgiving foods on my plate. As I was eating, and rapidly filling up, I noticed that I kept saving all my most delicious looking bites for last. I do this often - wanting to finish my meal with the tastiest, most perfect mouthful. It occurred to me that this is the opposite of how I should be eating.

Saving the best bite for last means you (1) are already banking on making it to that last bite, no matter how full you are and (2) you are left with the most tempting and tantalizing flavors and textures on your palette, which may entice you to go back for more, just to relive that taste again.

So from now on I'll be eating my best bites first and saving my worst bites for last. This way, I have less and less motivation to clear my plate and (hopefully) don't end on a craving for more. Maybe y'all have this figured out already, but it was a revelation for me. Hopefully some of you find it to be a simple and useful approach!
